Old stuff...

Requirements | Mirrors | Archive

Here you can find older versions of typhoon, down to the first public release. A nice trip down memory lane - and sometimes useful if you have trouble with more recent versions for some reason.

  • Typhoon 2001 - Release 3716 (16.09.2007)
  • Bugfixes and a few new things...
  • Changes:
    • Lengthened powerup spawn time slightly and slowed them down a bit
    • Fixed the "no joystick" problem in the bonus rounds
    • Reduced the spawn rate of the powerups -> less powerups per level
    • Graphics tweaks
    • Changed the amount of warp tokens needed for a bonus warp from five to six
    • Improved the opengl initalization
    • Added a configuration option to force the screen resolution autodetection -> useful if you play on different computers from a USB drive or something like that
    • Some timing changes
    • Added the web flicker on 1up
    • Modified some of the webs
    • Minor bug fixes
    • Added a glow around the lives counter that shows whether the superzapper is still available or not
    • Some other minor things...
  • Typhoon 2001 - Release 3632 (05.09.2007)
  • Bonus stage! And a lot of other things... probably some bugs as well...
  • Changes:
    • First the biggie: added the first bonus stage, and adjusted the game so the bonus stage fits in with the rest
    • "Excellent" and 2000 points powerups do not longer alternate after the first excellent, only the 2000 points are repeated
    • "Excellent" powerup now gives the player a warp token and fires a superzapper
    • 5 warp tokens take the player to the new bonus stage
    • Some minor bugfixes
    • Added new moving web fill effects
    • Added an optional glow effect to the web, stars and pixelshatter effects
    • Rearranged some settings in the "visual settings" menu - some config file entries also have changed/become obsolete
    • Some other minor graphical modifications
    • Slightly modified fuseball behaviour - they now move slower, cross lanes more often and move towards the player instead of randomly around the web
    • Slightly lengthened the mirror's shield-off-time
    • Changed pulsar tankers to fuseball tankers - the former were simply too crazy...
    • Fine tuned some other enemies
    • Changed superzapper from a "one blast kill" to the more interesting "lightning storm" of T2K
    • Added messages for screen setup (hold alt or ctrl on titlescreen to see what i mean)
    • Modified typhoon mode distance multiplier to x10 instead of x4
    • Raised combo mode multiplier timer to 1.5 seconds instead of 1.2
    • Adjusted some of the scores for level bonus, extra life etc.
    • Tuned the controls and rate of fire of the claw
    • Removed the whole highscore-limit-thingy in favor of the classic "you-get-the-start-bonus-after-the-second-level" method. Just works better that way... :/
    • Completely redid the level zone implementation (the things that define web line color, music, etc)
    • You can now use ".it", ".s3m" and ".xm" in addition to ".mod" music files
    • Other music related fixes
    • Some more stuff i forgot...
  • Typhoon 2001 - Release 2077 (15.04.2007)
  • No, i am NOT dead...
  • Changes:
    • Old speech samples now selectable in the audio menu (since everybody practically begged for that female voice ). The audio menu is accessible via the title menu (<ENTER> key on the title screen)
    • "Avoid the spikes!" message now only appears if there are actually spikes at the end of a level
    • Fixes to the behavior of the fuseballs
    • New enemy: mirror: has a forcefield that reflects your shots, can only be killed if it lowers its forcefield
    • Some graphical improvements
    • Fixes to the input routines
    • (very) slightly reduced the difficulty level
    • Modified the big font slightly
    • Lenghtened the "combo time" slightly
    • New explosion for Pulsar

    • Some other minor things that i forgot...
  • Typhoon 2001 - Release 1871 (28.01.2007)
  • Configurable controls! Yay!
  • Changes:
    • Found out that the game did not actually give points for tankers... now it does...
    • Superzapper now works properly against tankers, killing their content as well
    • Fuseballs now retreat to a random z-position instead of always all the way back to the lower end of the web
    • The level you last died or exited from is now remembered and this level is then the default in the level selector (but not if you quit the game)
    • Hopefully fixed the sound issues with the shot and level transition sounds
    • Fully configurable joystick/pad and keyboard controls (phew...) - no analog control for joysticks yet, though...
    • More options in the visual settings menu
    • Nice new color gradients in the background
    • The "at-least-3-levels-in-a-row-for-highscore" rule has now an exception: it does not apply if you start on level 1 - 5
    • You can now select the levelset to use in the gameplay settings menu
    • Played around with the starfields a bit...
    • Mouse control can now be set to inverted
  • Typhoon 2001 - Release 1550 (07.01.2007)
  • Small bugfix release...
  • Changes:
    • Highscore loader had a stupid bug which corrupted the scores and crashed the game on score entry when you do a fresh install... sorry about that
    • Added an aspect ratio change option to the main title screen (ALT + Cursor/Arrow left and right). Only affects the 3D display at the moment. Still, this option might be useful if you want to play the game on a widescreen television.

    • Made the claw movement a lot smoother, especially noticeable with mouse control
    • New ingame menu instead of pause (reachable via ESC)
    • Many new soundeffects and some internal sound changes
    • Wasted about a day trying to fix a bug i introduced while adding a new player death effect...
    • When the player dies the life is now subtracted when the level is reentered, not at the exact time of death
    • You automatically gain a extra life when you pass through the level you started from
    • Pulsar sound is now much more noticable
    • Shielders now "shed" their shields when they reach the rim
    • Shot away shields now also produce powerups

    • New Effects when a pulsar reaches the rim
    • Fixed a bug in the calculation of the levelzone (the music and color changes)

    • Fuseballs are now finally in, and they look quite beautiful i think...
    • In "Typhoon" and "Combo" mode the powerups can now be grabbed while jumping
    • Viewport can now be adjusted for all the people who like vertical monitors Just play around with CTRL + the cursor keys on the main screen
    • The field of view can now be changed as well. Default is 60 degrees, but you might have to change that for some viewport settings. Use ALT + cursor up/down.

    • Slightly improved the AI in the demomode
    • And of course - a lot of bugfixes and some things i forgot...

    • Tweaked the bonus scores a bit
    • Redesigned and moved a few webs
